Safety

  • Everyone wears a helmet and a life jacket for the whole time on the water.
  • Listen to the safety briefing and follow your river guide's commands.
  • If you fall in, float on your back with your feet up and pointing downstream, and wait for your guide's help.
  • Tell us before booking about pregnancy, injuries, or heart, back or other health conditions.
  • No alcohol before rafting.
  • The operator may close the river or change the trip when the water is too high.

Season & water level

Bali has a wet season and a dry season, and the Ayung changes with them. In the wet season, rain in the hills can raise the river quickly: the rapids get bigger and faster, and on some days the operator closes the river for safety. In the dry season the water is usually lower and the ride calmer. The river is checked before trips run; if it is closed because of high water, you choose a new date or a full refund.

  • Tell us before booking about pregnancy, recent injuries, heart or back problems or other health conditions.

What to expect

The Ayung is the rafting river near Ubud. A local rafting operator takes you down 10–12 km of Grade II–III rapids and calmer stretches in between — about 1.5–2 hours on the water, with a river guide steering every raft.

Choose how you join: a seat in a shared raft with your own way to the start point, a shared raft with a return hotel transfer (for at least 2 guests), or a private raft for your group at one price per raft. Trips start at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 and 13:00.

The river runs in a valley, so getting to and from the water means walking steps — see the river facts below. Everyone wears a helmet and a life jacket, and every trip starts with a safety briefing. You book and pay through Family Trips Bali; the trip itself is run by a local rafting operator.

Questions about this trip

Is the Ayung River good for a first rafting trip?

It is the gentler of our two rafting rivers, with Grade II–III rapids. A river guide steers every raft and explains the paddle commands in the safety briefing before you start. Not sure? Ask us on WhatsApp.

Are there steps to the river?

Yes. Getting to and from the Ayung means walking steps — the river facts on this page say how many. Take your time, and tell us before booking if someone in your group has trouble with stairs.

What is the difference between the packages?

The shared packages give you a seat in a raft with other guests: either you come to the operator's start point yourself, or you add a return hotel transfer (for at least 2 guests). The private raft is one price per raft for your group only, meeting at the start point.
