Ayung River Rafting
Grade II–III rapids in the river valley near Ubud — the gentler of our two rafting rivers.
The Ayung is the river near Ubud. Rafting trips run 10–12 km of it, with Grade II–III rapids and calmer stretches in between — about 1.5–2 hours on the water.
Of our two rafting rivers it is the gentler one, so it suits a first rafting trip and mixed groups better than the Telaga Waja. The rapids are still real white water: you paddle, you get wet, and your river guide steers the raft and calls the commands.
The river runs in a valley, so getting to and from the water means walking steps. The trips are run by local rafting operators; the exact start point is confirmed before your trip.
Bali has a wet season and a dry season, and the Ayung changes with them. In the wet season, rain in the hills can raise the river quickly: the rapids get bigger and faster, and on some days the operator closes the river for safety. In the dry season the water is usually lower and the ride calmer. The river is checked before trips run; if it is closed because of high water, you choose a new date or a full refund.
